If you ever intend on selling, do say so! This is so rad! The group that I larp with would be allow using a larp Scythe. You don't, by any chance, have step to step pics of that do you?

how is the core placed inside ? and how did you bend the core ?

For the core i've used a matal tube bended by hammering it to makes it take the perfect shape. After, i've filled the tube with a rubber band and fiber glass.

wow... so it's a combined metal/rubber/fiber glass core you got inside the scythe ? must be heavy :D

Yeah! But though! :) But the point is that this schythe is more a element of a costume than a L.A.R.P. weapon. The fact is that the simple fact that this is a scythe makes it illegual in every L.A.P. LOL!

This is self-made? I'd love to have one myself ... but I just recently started with larp so I've no idea how to get it going. Do you any advice?

My bigest advice is: Dont try to make a scythe... It is evil and harsh to complete and it will never be accepted anywerw... But Use fiberglass for the skeletton of your weapon and Evozote foam for the structure. This matérial is sof and resistant. Verry good for LARP Weapons! :)

Uh well thanks that's not exactly the advice i was looking for but I guess that's the reason why I haven't found anything about it yet. It's sad you can't use it ... it's brilliant! Did you create it for a special character or something?

i just ordered some eva foam, some fiberglass rods and a couple things of plasti-dip. should have something ugly made up soon. :-P
have you used a foam cutter or hot knife before? i'm considering getting one, and for $30 it wouldn't be too expensive.

Thanks! A L.A.R.P. Is a Live Action Role Playing game. So, this scithe is made to be used in a fight in a secure way without harming people. :) A kind of big expansive toy. Haha! :)

I wield a real one and it slices the wind like a dream, but I'm a Grim Reaper if you will. If you wield like a oddly shaped staff, being careful of the blade of course and never land a hit with the blade. The weight is a problem but if you spend some time with it you'll get use to it. I did C:

Haha! Nice! I have a real one too. I've tried it thats real it slice like death! You just have to follow the weight of the blade and use it to youre advantage. Thats fun!

UN-finished!?!?! Looks cool to me!!!!

I wish I could so do that!!!!

I wana make one so bad and now I'm back in the mood to try.

Though, how did you get it to curve?

Thats because the pommel and the reanforcing rings aren't paint. This is the foam colors... They should be gold. And it miss some contrast on the wooden part. And maybe the runes too need to be moore clear.
But thanks! :)
for the shaft curve i used a metal tube filled with fiber glass and the blade curve is nothig moore than a little angle in the axis of the fiber glass.

do you think coring the blade with something more flexible like plastic tubing or hose, or leather would make it more legal?
Reply
:icondraks:
draks Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2012
Moore legal maybe... But the blade will become too much flexible and it will break and it will become unwieldly... I've already tryd it... :(

Epic! I just finished my sword and was feeling proud, your incredible.

What did you use for the frame? I don't know if "frame" the right word in english... but the hard stuff in the middle.
Im guessing the "soft" is some sort of plastic-foam and latex..

:icondraks:

Thanks a lot! :) Yeah for the frame i used a specisl foam name (Evazote) The frame is a hybrid construction of metal, fiber glass and epoxy. but my work on this one is not finished yet.

In northen sweden there are few larps that tolerate other then fiber glass
(cuz we are safety freaks)
so I get really facinated, what kind of metal and where? if I may ask.. ^^

I Dont thik i will use it in a real LARP But the metal used for this one is a steel tube Filed with rubber and fiber glass. The piece is heavy but easely wielded. The two litle handles ares placed juste perfectly for my size. But i think one day i will made a better one.
